As the cap for the body, the cap plays an important role in the function of various types of valves, including but not limited to gate, ball, and check valves.
What is a Valve Bonnet?
The bonnet is a component that includes the moving parts of the valve plug and the sealing device that prevents leakage along the valve stem. It typically provides a method for installing the actuator. Sealing to prevent leaks can be achieved through packing or bellows. The bonnet assembly may include a packing lubricator component with or without an isolation valve. Radiant fin or extended shields may be used to maintain a temperature differential between the valve body and the sealing device.
The valve bonnet is the second principal pressure boundary of the valve. It is cast or forged from the same material as the body and connected to the body by means of threads, bolts, or welding joints.
Different types of Valve Bonnet
SJ offers different types of Bonnet to meet the different needs of various applications. Four common types include standard, extended (also known as long cap ball valves), low temperature, and bellows sealed bonnet. The choice between these valves depends on a number of factors, such as the operating environment, temperature, pressure and the type of fluid being controlled. Each valve cover type has its own unique characteristics and advantages.

The role of valve covers in various industrial applications
Valve covers are integral components in many industries such as oil, gas, water treatment and power generation. Each industry has unique requirements that determine the type of Bonnet required. For example, in the LNG industry where low temperature applications are common, low temperature valve covers are preferred. At the same time, extended hood ball valves and hood globe valves are widely used in high temperature applications such as steam pipelines.
