Double acting actuator has ports at each end of the actuator and can operate in both directions, double acting actuators can have higher torque in specific situations than spring-return actuators. This is suitable for very high thrust or torque. If your machinery needs to have a valve remain in its last position when it loses a signal or power, the double-acting actuator is the better choice.
What is Double Acting Pneumatic Actuator?
Double-acting pneumatic actuator cylinders are equipped with inlet ports at both ends, through the external reversing valve alternately to the two chambers of the compressed gas input: a cavity inflatable pressure, the other cavity exhaust pressure relief, the formation of bidirectional pressure difference, to promote the piston back and forth movement.
Compared with the single-acting actuator (relying on spring reset), its advantage lies in the bidirectional controllable force, higher movement speed and reliability, and no spring fatigue problem, suitable for the need for accurate bidirectional control or high-frequency cycling scenarios, such as the industrial valve opening and closing, robotic arm clamping and so on.
Double Acting Pneumatic Actuator Working Principle
1. Bidirectional pneumatic drive
Both ends of the cylinder are connected to the compressed gas, through the reversing valve to switch the direction of the gas circuit, alternately supplying gas to the two chambers and exhausting the gas synchronously, using the pressure difference to realize the piston bi-directional movement.
2. No spring forced reset
The piston round trip is completely controlled by air pressure without spring assisted reset, avoiding the performance degradation caused by spring fatigue and enhancing long-term reliability.
3. Independent thrust adjustment
The air pressure in both chambers can be adjusted independently, allowing different thrust outputs in push and return, which is suitable for load changes.
