- Dynamic pressure control: The water pump starts and supplies energy to the system. If the pressure at the outlet of the water pump suddenly surges due to a sudden change in downstream load or malfunction (such as pipeline blockage or valve misoperation), the safety valve must respond immediately.
- SJ recommends using water pumps with overload protection function, in conjunction with high response speed safety valves. When the pressure approaches the set value of the safety valve, the control system of the water pump can perform speed reduction or frequency conversion adjustment in advance to reduce the frequent or large-scale opening of the safety valve and extend the service life of the equipment.
- Shutdown and restart protection: During emergency shutdown or restart of the water pump, the system may experience water hammer effects or instantaneous pressure fluctuations. The safety valve must have reliable sealing to ensure rapid reseating after normal pressure recovery and effective pressure relief under extreme high pressure.
- Equipment selection balance: When designing, engineers must ensure that the displacement of the safety valve is greater than the maximum possible output of the water pump. This is the most basic safety principle in collaboration, ensuring that even if the water pump is operating at maximum load, the safety valve can promptly discharge excess pressure, achieving the "ultimate balance" of the output pressure of the water pump.

1. Pressure matching principle (Safety First):
The set pressure of the safety valve must be less than the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) of the protected equipment.
At the same time, this set pressure should be slightly higher than the maximum normal working pressure of the water pump to prevent the safety valve from malfunctioning during normal system fluctuations.
2. Principle of Capacity Margin:
The rated displacement of the safety valve must be greater than or equal to the maximum heat or pressure that the pump can generate at its maximum output flow rate under any possible operating conditions, including no-load operation or when the outlet is completely closed. The safety factor is usually required to be greater than 1.1.
3. Material compatibility principle (Media Compatibility):
The material of the overcurrent components of the water pump and safety valve must have good corrosion resistance to the conveying medium (such as water, chemicals, etc.), ensuring that the material performance will not deteriorate during long-term operation and emergency pressure relief.
4. Efficiency&Response Balance:
For variable frequency drive (VFD) water pump systems, pilot operated safety valves or valves with fast response characteristics should be selected. This type of valve can better match the dynamic speed regulation capability of the water pump, reduce system pressure lag and overshoot, and achieve higher operating energy efficiency.
