What is a swing check valve?

A swing check valve is a straightforward and efficient device engineered to ensure unidirectional flow of liquids or gases. Its operation is automatic: when the fluid moves in the intended forward direction, the valve disc swings open, allowing passage. Conversely, if the fluid attempts to flow in the reverse direction, the disc swings shut, effectively preventing backflow. This inherent ability to operate without external power makes them highly practical.

Widely adopted in water and wastewater treatment applications, swing check valves are valued for their economy, versatility in material selection, and availability in various designs tailored for specific functions. They can be found in a broad spectrum of sizes and configurations to match particular application requirements. Furthermore, the swing disc design itself can be adapted to suit specific operational needs and challenging situations.

Working Principle:

• In the operating mechanism of a swing check valve, the baffle swings outward to open a channel for the forward flow of fluid or gas. When the flow needs to be cut off, the baffle swings inward and fits tightly against the valve seat, and the valve is automatically closed by gradually reducing the system pressure. Since this type of valve relies on the swinging action of the baffle to achieve its function, its application scenarios are mainly limited to conditions where the fluid or gas flows horizontally or vertically upward.

• The valve disc of the swing check valve is connected to the rocker and can rotate around the pin at a certain angle. When the input pressure is greater than the resistance pressure, the fluid flows in a predetermined direction, and the valve disc is separated from the valve seat and rotates to the fully open position; when the flow rate decreases, the valve disc rotates back to close, thereby preventing the fluid from flowing back.

• The swing check valve adopts an internal rocker arm swing structure. All its moving parts are placed outside the valve body, with only the sealing gasket and the center flange sealing ring outside the valve body. This design eliminates potential leakage points.
