Stop The Test Immediately And Ensure Safety

Turn off the power to the pump: This is the first step! Make sure the pump stops completely to prevent further leakage and damage to the equipment (especially the motor).

Isolate the water source: Shut off the water supply by closing the pump inlet valve (if possible) and outlet valve. If the system has a pressure relief valve or drain valve, consider opening it appropriately to relieve system pressure.

Sign Warnings: Place warning signs near the leak area to alert others to slippery floors and electrical hazards.
Identify The Source of The Leak
Look closely: Carefully inspect the pump and the pipe system it is connected to to find out where the water is leaking. Common leaks include:
- Mechanical Seal: This is one of the most common leak points. Water seeps from where the pump shaft passes through the pump casing.

Stuffing Box: If the pump uses a stuffing seal, water may drip or seep from the stuffing gland (a small amount of leakage is allowed to lubricate the packing, but a large amount of leakage is not normal during testing).

Flange Connection: The connection between the pump inlet and outlet flanges and the pipe flange.

Threaded Connection: Threaded interface of small-diameter pipes or instruments.

Valves (inlet valves, outlet valves, pressure relief valves, etc.): Stem seal or body connection.

Pump Body Itself: Pinholes, cracks or casting defects (rare but may be revealed by test pressure).

Vent Plug/Plug: Plug for the process hole on the pump body.

Sealing Gasket: between the pump cover and the pump body or other flat connections that require sealing.
