It is conceivable that under standard boiler operating conditions, steam pressure may remain within safe limits, preventing the safety valves from activating. However, if a valve remains closed for an extended duration, the valve and seat could potentially fuse, compromising the designated lifting pressure. To mitigate this risk, industry best practices recommend manually testing safety valves each shift by engaging the test lever until the valve lifts—typically feasible only when steam pressure exceeds 90% of the predetermined lifting threshold.
