How Dose steam safety relief valve Working?

Pressure in steam systems and related equipment is controlled by pressure reducing valve (PRV) stations and control elements that monitor pressure, return condensate from steam lines to boilers at the NIH Central Utility Plant, and separate steam and condensate at different pressures. Pressure in steam lines For many pressure vessels, pressure can rise above the rated design pressure for reasons including control instrument failure and pressure surges

Actual application scenario
The basic components of a spring-loaded"conventional"SRV consist of a vertical steam inlet, a horizontal discharge, and an internal disc that is held closed by a spring within the bonnet. Steam is discharged through the valve disc when it is lifted from its seat by steam and enters the valve port above the setsteam pressure, which the system operating pressure is selected by the designer by adjusting the spring. Set pressuresare greater than the normal operating pressure of the system to avoid unnecessary discharges, but they should never exceed the system's maximum allowable operating pressure. The valve releases steam through an outlet pipe that is flanged or threaded to the discharge port. The outlet pipe is bent at an elbow, from which the steam escapes to a vent

The following figure shows a typical function curve for a spring loaded safety valve. The operating set pressure of a 526 Series API Safety Valve with Adjusting Ring and Initial Sound Venting is defined. It is important to understand that the operating pressure of the protected equipment should be kept below the pressure at which the valve is re-seated. Most manufacturers, codes and standards recommend a difference between 4 - 6% between the re-seating pressure and the operating pressure to allow the valve to properly re-seat and achieve a good seat tightness again.
